The next Gaia versions will make any star database obsolete. Except for the Gaia online link see above, I will stick for local star database to my Tycho-2 & UCAC4 compilation till Gaia DR2 is released in 2017. Gaia will collect data for many more years to come. If you use Linux or Mac OS, be sure to read the specific notes in the Catgen documentation page. This will be solved in the next Gaia releases.
